artist statement
My work is an exploration of immersion, the sublime and infinity. Through painting, sculpting and music production, I build new worlds as abstract hyper-immersive installations. The work aims to gently teleport its viewers out of themselves and into a euphoric state of wonder and contentment. This journey is instigated by a multi-sensory experience hosted in any space, whether virtual or outdoors or in a gallery.
In a non-virtual interior space (for example), ambient music is played out-loud in surround sound, the light in the space gradually changes colour, seemingly floating sculptures move around the space via programmed mechanics, along with distorted walls, the ceiling and floor all also slowly moving – warping the sense of sound, sight, touch and space itself. This multi-faceted and consuming experience is the journey.
From the initial idea of a piece to the construction of it, painting is at the core of my entire practice – a layered, spacial, compositional, fabricated, illusory, drawn-out, textured, playful and magical materiality. These qualities are rooted in my drawings, paintings, digital art, music, sculptures and installations.
The world needs more positive experiences that promote love, peace and wonder and bring people together; the environments I build provide this.
